Nylon Material | MPQ Plastics

Nylon is a synthetic polymer generally known as polyamide. MPQ Plastics extrude a wide range of nylon plastic grades including Nylon 6 and Nylon 66 or PA6 & PA66. Nylon plastics are known as the workhorse of engineering plastics. This is due to Nylons variety of properties and application uses.

Because of Nylons good mechanical strength, abrasion resistance, chemical, thermal and low friction properties; it has earned a reputation as an excellent bearing material. Hardness and strength, yet toughness and tenacity are the combination that makes Nylon so versatile and the perfect  solution for many difficult applications and industries to use. Nylon plastic is also hygroscopic (absorbs water).

Advantages To Using Nylon Material

Nylon is the workhorse of engineering plastics. To earn this name Nylon must have a number of advantages and uses. Lets take a look at why Nylon 6 and Nylon 66 have earned this reputation and learn what this material can be used for.

Nylon 6 Extruded Plastic

Extruded Nylon 6 is commonly used as a substitute for bronze, aluminium and other nonferrous metals because of its light weight. MPQ also offers a heat stabilised and an impact modified grades of Nylon 6.

  • Excellent bearing and sliding properties.
  • Good chemical resistance.
  • High flexibility and fatigue resistance.
  • High impact strength and toughness.
  • High wear resistance.
  • Lightweight material.
  • Superior resistance to creep, wear, and heat.

Nylon 66 Extruded Plastic

Magna-Plas (Qld) extrudes Nylon 66 at its Gold Coast factory. Nylon 66 is a semi-crystalline engineering thermoplastic with universal uses. Nylon 66 is noted for its high temperature resistance and high tensile strength as a material. It has higher mechanical strength, stiffness and toughness than that of Nylon 6.

Nylon 66 thermoplastic also has superior machining properties and exhibits better heat, wear and creep resistance than extruded Nylon 6.

Nylon 66 thermoplastics offer many benefits and advantages above those of standard Nylon 6 thermoplastic. Some advantages include a higher temperature rating, lower impact strength and higher wear resistance. Engineering thermoplastics are easier to machine than other materials, including nylon 6 and the moisture absorption Nylon 66 is lower than that of Nylon 6 thermoplastic.

  • Nylon 66 is easily machined.
  • Good sliding properties.
  • Resistant to many oils, greases, diesel, petrol, cleaning fluids Strong, tough and rigid.
  • Very abrasion resistant.
  • High mechanical strength.

Applications Nylon 6 & Nylon 66 Is Used For

Nylon 6 and Nylon 66 is used in a plethora of industries and applications across the world. With different characteristics of Nylon materials; let’s take a look at some examples on how this material can be used.

  • Nylon bushes and flanges.
  • High load bearings.
  • Wear pads.
  • Support and guide wheels.
  • Conveyor and tension rollers.
  • Buffer pads.
  • Gears.
  • Bushes.
  • Auto components.
  • Rope pulleys.
  • Harvesting (Grape & Olive) components.
